Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai Celebrates Vesak

Remarking the birth, the enlightenment, and the passing away of Lord Buddha, Vesak (Buddha Punima) is widely celebrated in South and South East Asia, among the followers of Buddhism. Accordingly, Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai, celebrated Vesak festival on 15th May, 2022 at the Chancery premises, with the participation of the Mission staff. Under the invitation of Dr. D. Venkateshwaran, the Deputy High Commissioner, Ven. Buddawansalankara thero (Ven. Gauthama Mauriyar thero) of Rameshwaram, also participated the Celebration and preformed a special Bodhi pooja, well-wishing Sri Lanka and people.

Dr. Venkateshwaran meets Dr. A. K. Padhee, IAS, Director, Country Relations, ICRISAT

International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is an international organization which conducts agricultural research for rural development, headquartered in Patancheru (Hyderabad, Telangana,) with several regional centers and research stations in African Continent. It was founded in 1972 by a consortium of organizations convened by the Ford and the Rockefeller foundations and charter was signed by the FAO and the UNDP. Deputy High Commissioner met Dr. A. K. Padhee, IAS, Director, Country Relations of ICRISAT and discussed on possible collaborations on agriculture between Sri Lankan Stakeholders and ICRISAT.

DHC meets Mr. Arindam Bagchi, Official Spokesperson and Joint Secretary [XP] of Ministry of External Affairs

Dr. D. Venkateshwaran, the Deputy High Commissioner, paid a visit to New Delhi from 29th March to 1st April, and met several Government officials and Business delegates. In this visit, Deputy High Commissioner met Mr. Arindam Bagchi, Official Spokesperson and Joint Secretary [XP] of Ministry of External Affairs at the Spokesperson’s Office, MEA and discussions were focused on the cordial bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and India

Special Consular Camp 29.03.2022

Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai had organized a Special Consular Camp in the Chancery Premises on 29.03.2022. 157 Citizenship Certificates and 09 Birth Certificates were issued for Sri Lankans living in Aliyanilai in Pudukkottai District, Kottapattu & Valavandhankottai in Trichy District. Further, the Mission issued 34 RRP Passports for Sri Lankan expats who are willing to take part in Volunteer Repatriation Process jointly conducted by this Mission and UNHCR

Special Consular Camp 22.03.2022

In a special Consular Camp held at the Chancery Premises on 22.03.2022, Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai issued 158 Citizenship Certificates and 17 birth certificates. Sri Lankans living in Mandapam in Ramanathapuram, Arachalur in Erode, Thavasi in Tiruvannamalai, Uchapatty in Madurai, Adiyanoothu and Puthupatty in Dindigul participated the above camp.

Trade and Investment Awareness Session

Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai, in collaboration with Business Dhronacharya Institute of Entrepreneurs, conducted a ‘Trade and Investment Awareness Session’ at the Chancery premises on 08.03.2022. The objective of the Session was to make the participants aware of the trade and investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka for MSME sector players and arrange a South Indian delegation to Sri Lanka in order to explore more business collaborations with the Sri Lankan trading community. Giving the impetus, Dr. Venkateshwaran, Deputy High Commissioner stressed the importance of doing business in Sri Lanka and convinced the facilities and incentives being provided by the government of Sri Lanka to Indian traders and investors. Potential traders and investors from heterogeneous business sectors in South India such as textiles, Automobile, electronic and IT/BPO, etc. were participated the event.

Special Consular Camp 11.03.2022

Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai issued 101 Birth Certificates in a special consular camps organized at the Chancery premises on 11th March, 2022. Sri Lankans in Mettupatty in Namakkal, Pooluvapatti in Coimbatore, Bhavanisagar & Arachalur in Erode, Pavalathanoor in Salem, Anaiyur in Madurai, Gummidipoondi & Puzhal in Tiruvallur areas participated this camp.
