The Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai, Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri D.K. Shivakumar, in Bengaluru on 9 June 2026. During the meeting, discussions were focused on expanding economic and technological cooperation between Sri Lanka and Karnataka, with particular emphasis on innovation, startups, trade, and investment. The Deputy High Commissioner proposed the establishment of a Bengaluru–Colombo Technology Entrepreneurship Corridor, aimed at connecting Bengaluru’s globally renowned startup ecosystem with Sri Lanka’s growing technology sector. The proposal included collaboration through a Joint Innovation Fund, startup exchange programmes, and partnerships in fintech and digital innovation. Discussions also highlighted Sri Lanka’s strategic advantages as a regional trade and logistics hub, including opportunities through the Colombo Port and the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT). The Deputy High Commissioner invited Karnataka-based logistics firms to use Colombo as a transhipment hub. The Hon. Chief Minister welcomed the discussions and acknowledged the potential for enhanced cooperation between Karnataka and Sri Lanka in areas of mutual interest. The Deputy High Commissioner extended an invitation to the Hon. Chief Minister to visit Sri Lanka and further strengthen bilateral partnerships and also invited a Karnataka Investment delegation to visit Sri Lanka to explore opportunities in pharmaceuticals, apparel, electronics manufacturing, and IT services.  Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka, Chennai, 10.06.2026
