Kandy comes alive in banners and lights during the month of August when the Temple of the Tooth Relic will be paraded through its streets in a spectacle of lights, colours and dancing. It is known to be one of the oldest continuously running cultural pageants in the world and the grandest festival in Buddhist culture.
