Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai hands over a large number of Birth Certificates and Citizenship Certificates issued for children living in Sri Lankan refugee camps in Tamil Nadu

 


353 Sri Lankan Birth Certificates issued for the Sri Lankan children living in the refugee camps in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and 567 Sri Lanka Citizenship Certificates issued for the Sri Lankan children living in the refugee camps in Remeshwaram, Virudunagar and Madurai in Tamil Nadu were handed over for distribution by the Actg. Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Mr. O.L. Ameerajwad to Shri B. Anand, IAS, the newly appointed  Principal Secretary/Commissioner of Rehabilitation & Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils of the Government of Tamil Nadu during their meeting held on 7th May 2013 at the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation, in Chennai.  Mr. W.M. Dharmapala, Minister Counsellor of the Deputy High Commission was also present at the meeting.

Actg. Deputy High Commissioner O.L. Ameer Ajwad graces ‘Graduation Day’ of T. John College, Bangalore, as Chief Guest

 

 

The ‘Graduation Day- 2013’ was celebrated with great pomp and show on 20th April, 2013 in T. John College and T. John Institute of Management and Science in Bangalore. The occasion was graced by Mr. O.L. Ameer Ajwad, Actg. Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India as the Chief Guest. The Chairman of TJGI Dr. Thomas P. John, The Advisor to TJGI Ret’d Wg. Cdr. D.A.K. Yohan, the Campus Director of TJGI Ret’d Wg. Cdr. P. Sambasivan, the Principal of T. John College Dr. Shikha Tiwari along with the Vice Principal of T. John College Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Heads of Departments and other faculty members also graced the occasion. The students were there for the occasion with their parents and well-wishers. The programme began on a celebratory note with the playing of the college anthem. The ‘Invocation Song’ was sung which was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and a ‘Welcome Address’.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebrations in Chennai

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, a national festival for Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka was celebrated at the new Chancery Premises of the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai on 21st April 2013. This was the first ever New Year celebration after Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai moved to its own Chancery Premises in August 2012.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the Sri Lankan national flag by Mr. O.L. Ameerajwad, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India. 16 varieties of games for both children and adults, associated with the New Year, began with placing the eye on the elephant followed by bursting the balloon, breaking the water pot and so on.
